About explorer views

The explorer views of Service Desk are a very flexible way to look at, and find information in Service Desk. Explorer views present a table view combined with a navigation tree and detailed information in one view. The explorer views contain:

In the navigation pane, the information is displayed in a table or in a tree view. An example of a tree view is shown in the picture above. If you click on an item in the navigation pane (1 in the picture), then the branch pane shows all items contained in that item. In the picture above you see all configuration items in the branch pane that can be found at location B1R201. The information that can be shown in the navigation pane are items referred to from the item in the branch pane, or codes. The location is a hierarchical structured code used in the configuration item. In a form, the information in the navigation pane would be shown with a lookup item button or a code field. For the configuration item, the owner of the configuration item could also be used in the navigation pane.

The branch pane contains the items you are looking for with the explorer view. In the picture above, the explorer view is created to find information about configuration items. If you click an item in the branch pane (2. Base Pane in the picture), then the leaf panes show detailed information of the item selected in the branch pane. In the above picture, service calls regarding the PCKAYAK07 configuration item are shown. You can make explorer views on any item you have viewing access to.

All panes below the branch pane are leaf panes. The leaf panes show detailed information of the item selected in the branch pane. The information that can be shown in leaf panes is information related to the item in the branch pane. Service calls are related to configuration items to explain what the service call is about. In a form, the information in the leaf panes would be shown as a list. For the configuration item, the history lines could also be shown in the leaf pane.

The information in the branch pane and the leaf panes is displayed in table views. You can modify the settings of the branch pane and leaf panes from within the explorer view.
