You can copy an item to make a duplicate of the same type, or to
save it as a different type of item. For example, you can copy a
service call to make a duplicate service call, or to save it as a
problem.
You can also paste the fields of a copied item into another item
opened in a form. The target item can be of the same type or of a
different type.
To make a duplicate item of the same type:
In the item's view, select the item you want to duplicate.
From the Edit menu, choose
Copy. The item's information is now on the Windows
clipboard.
From the Edit menu, choose
Paste. A duplicate item is created.
To create a new item of a different type:
In the original item's view, select the item you want to
copy.
From the Edit menu, choose
Copy. The item's information is now on the Windows
clipboard.
Open a view for the required type of item.
From the Edit menu, choose
Paste. A new item is crested, using the default
template for the item type.
To copy information and paste it into an existing item:
In the original item's view, select the item you want to
copy.
From the Edit menu, choose
Copy. The item's information is now on the Windows
clipboard.
Open the target item in a form.
Select Paste Special from the
Edit menu. The information from the copied item is
pasted into the form.
NOTES:
When copying and pasting items, not everything is copied. The
new item will have its own ID number, history information is not
copied and references to work orders are not copied. References to
other items are only copied if more than one item can refer to the
same item.
When you paste an item, you create a new item using the default
template for the item. After the template is applied, information
is taken from the Windows clipboard and pasted into the new item.
If the clipboard contains information that is not applicable to the
new item, then this information is discarded. For example, if you
copy a service call and paste the information in an incident then
caller information is discarded because the incident does not have
the caller field.
Your system administrator can configure which fields are copied
from a particular type of item. Contact your system administrator
for further information about the fields that are copied.
