About toolbars

Toolbars allow you to organize the commands in Service Desk. You can modify existing toolbars, by adding or removing menus or buttons. Or, you can create new toolbars to include only those buttons and menus you need. In a customized toolbar you can find often used commands fast and use them quickly. Furthermore, you can hide or display toolbars, and move the toolbars to any position on the screen. This way you can create a desktop that feels comfortable and supports common tasks.

The Actions menu contains actions. There are three kinds of actions:

• Smart link actions
  Smart link actions call external programs. The external program may be called with passing information from the item you had selected or opened when clicking the smart link action command. For example, Notepad may be opened to create a text file using the ID of the current item as the name for the text file.
• Overview actions
  Overview actions open table views of other items. The information in the opened table view can be filtered to show information related to the item you had selected or opened when clicking the overview action command.
• System actions
  System actions are tasks that would be too complex to perform manually.
  

A menu bar is also a toolbar. For example, the standard toolbar is a menu bar that contains menus such as File, Edit, and View. A menu bar contains menus and commands for working with items and settings in the current view type. You can customize the menu bars just as you would any built-in toolbar.
